Capturing the essence

I used to love the clunk of my old Pentax medium format shutter. The considered image was captured there, once and for all, mistakes and all. Modern editing techniques now means that the shutter click is just the start of the process but I keep that old mechanical shutter mentality.

Being a photographer is a blessing and a curse, because wherever you go, one is cursed by having to see the world as a sequence of images, light, focus and angles. All things considered though, this is really a blessing, as it means one is an active observer of one's surroundings rather than a passive spectator. Even when I don't have my camera, a shutter clicks in my head when I see something that gives me JOY.

There is also room for imagination and interpretation. In the Abstracts section, I have used slow shutter speeds to bend and blur the familiar.

I do not own a flashgun, except on my phone.
